Inspection and documentation of suspected hail damage.

## What this page covers

Hail leaves damage that's invisible from the ground and easy to miss until it's too late to file a claim. We inspect the roof, document what we find, and work alongside your insurance company to get the claim right.

## Frequently asked questions

### How do I know if my roof has hail damage?

You likely can't tell from the ground. Hail damage shows up as granule loss, bruised or cracked shingles, and dents in soft metals — gutters, flashing, A/C caps. All of that requires getting on the roof. If a hailstorm came through your area, assume there's something worth inspecting.

### What size hail causes roof damage?

Quarter-sized hail (1 inch) and larger routinely damages asphalt shingles. Smaller hail can cause claimable damage on older or salt-air-weathered roofs common on the NC coast. Impact resistance varies by shingle age and condition — our inspection documents what the storm actually did, not just what the hail size suggests.

### How long after a hailstorm do I have to file a claim?

Most NC homeowner policies require filing within one year of the storm date, though some are shorter. The documentation is much easier when the damage is fresh and the storm date is recent. We recommend not waiting.

### Is hail damage always covered by homeowners insurance?

Wind and hail damage are covered under most standard homeowner policies. Age-related wear and pre-existing conditions are excluded. Our inspection separates what the storm caused from what was already there — giving adjusters a clear, defensible picture.
